Five Water Activities in Whistler Summer
Posted on July 15, 2024
Alta Lake, Lost Lake, Green Lake and Nita Lake. The four main lakes in Whistler have clean, emerald green water and provide one of the best water activity spots in BC. Here are our top five Water Activities to do in Whistler this Summer.
Whitewater Rafting
Ready to get your adrenaline pumping with a thrilling high-speed adventure? Ride the river rapids fed from the mountains, through the valley, on a fast, exciting Whitewater rafting tour. CANADIAN OUTBACK ADVENTURES has some of the best rafting tours in Whistler. You can choose from a challenging, adrenaline-infused run down the Elaho or Squamish rivers. Stretch your boundaries, get out there, and live life on the edge.
Canoeing
Soak up the sunshine as you glide your way through glacier-fed emerald green lakes with a canoe in Whistler. Our recommendation for canoeing is the River of the Golden Dreams which runs from Alta Lake all the way into Green Lake. The flow is fast in some spots, which is great for teamwork. As you traverse the River of Golden Dreams, you might see eagles, beavers, their dams and other wildlife. You can rent a canoe at Whistler Eco Tours near the Alta Lake.
SUP (Stand-Up-Paddle)
If you’ve been wanting to try Stand-Up-Paddleboarding, Alpha Lake is the best place to try it out. Alpha lake is located at the southern end of Whistler Valley in the Creekside neighbourhood. If you’d like to enjoy a lake day with your furry best friend, Alpha Lake Park is dog friendly and located right on the lake. Enjoy introducing new water activities with your dog in a safe environment. You can rent Stand-Up-Paddle Boards at Whistler Eco Tours, plus they have guided tours. For more information check out their website.
Fishing
Getting out of the ordinary, fishing is the perfect choice for a rugged adventure in Whistler. Hang out with our British Columbian wildlife while you troll for fish in our local lakes and rivers. Rainbow Trout, which have a beautiful colour, are the most plentiful fish at any lake in Whistler. Bull Trout call Green Lake their home, and Cutthroat Trout swim throughout Alta Lake. You might catch trout pushing over 20 inches if you are lucky. For a guided tour, reach out to Whistler Fishing Guides and enjoy your escape into mother nature.
Kayak
Kayaking is one of the best water activities for all ages, from children to adults. Paddling by yourself provides a sense of freedom and paddling with your family or partner is an opportunity to spend time closer together. You can rent a Kayak at Backroads Whistler in Lakeside Park. Get energy from sunshine, lush green mountains, and beautiful transparent water in Alta Lake.
