A Guide to Autumn Activities in Whistler
A Guide to Autumn Activities in Whistler
Posted on September 01, 2023
Whistler steps away from the world stage every fall as Mother Nature transitions our majestic mountain backdrop and local residents play in nature. The valley shows a different side from the busy summer and winter seasons. The leaves change colour, and the snow line creeps down the mountains. There is a sense of anticipation for the ski and snowboard season as our locals fulfil their sense of adventure with plenty of outdoor activities.
BIKING
The best way to explore Whistler in Autumn is on a bike. The 45 km long paved valley trail winds its way through the Whistler neighbourhoods through forests, past lakes, and rivers. Rental bikes are available at PREMIUM, located in the Crystal Lodge. For those who want to save energy and stroll cool, e-bike rentals are available. From watching float planes land at Green Lake to watching birds from viewing platforms along the valley trail, you will have no shortage of sights or sounds on your biking adventure.
HIKING
The West Coasts’ calm yet mild temperatures during Autumn are great for hiking. Joffre Lakes Provincial Park is a30 minute drive north of Whistler and astounds hikers of all ages and abilities with its towering peaks and massive glaciers. There are three different types of lakes, and it is one of the most picturesque lake hikes in BC.
SCAVENGER HUNT
A scavenger hunt is a great way to get to know Whistler and is fun for all ages and abilities. Perfect for friends and families to develop communication and teamwork. Tourism Whistler provides a Summer and Winter Hunting list that will take you on an exploratory adventure through Whistler.
LOCAL ART
A visit to Whistler’s three museums, the Audain Art Museum, the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre and the Whistler Museum, will give you a deeper understanding of the area and its history. The Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre presents the history and culture of the Whistler Valley’s original inhabitants. The Audain Museum houses a collection of the west coast First Nations masks and sculptures and several paintings by Emily Carr, BC’s most famous painter, in one of Whistler’s most iconic buildings. For those interested in the early days of Whistler’s tourism history, the Whistler Museum provides a glimpse into our settlement’s past.
NIGHT ILLUMINATION
Would you like a fabulous romantic time with your partner or family? If you are looking for something to do at night, we would love to recommend VALLEA LUMINA, created by Moment Factory, a worldwide design factory based in Montreal. The Vallea Lumina is one of the newest attractions in Whistler and is formally described as “A multimedia night walk in pursuit of hidden wonders”.
TREAT YOURSELF
When the sun shines through the cool autumn air, a day at Scandinave Spa lets you feel even more relaxed. The therapeutic hot, cold and relaxation loop rests the body, particularly after a hard day of hiking or biking. The beauty and silence of the Spa will make you forget your daily grind. If the sun is out and the air a bit cool, visiting the Spa during autumn in Whistler feels even more fabulous.
HORSEBACK RIDING
Escaping from the city and exploring the backcountry with a horse is a fantastic experience. Copper Cayuse Outfitters, located 30 minutes from the Crystal Lodge, provides horseback riding tours. The Overnight Riding Tour will take you on horseback through mountains and nature for three days. It will be an exciting and memorable adventure.
